First, Thank You Beta Readers
It has been awhile so I thought I would post an update regarding my upcoming book, 3 Simple Rules.
First, I want to take a moment to thank all of the beta readers for their suggestions. Beta readers are an integral part of both the writing and publishing process. After finishing a manuscript, some writers are hesitant about sharing their creation with others. The reasons can range from a fear of rejection to a feeling of self-importance and how could anything I write be improved upon. Believe me, it can be improved upon.
Beta readers can help at different stages in the writing process as well. For me, when I write nonfiction, I like to write out a first draft, warts and all, and just put it out there. If I stop to edit along the way I lose the momentum of what I am writing. I even have a word that I put in the text as I am writing to remind me to go back and add more or research further. Yes, sometimes these are even left in and the beta readers find them. The point is, I want to know if I am on to something, or if I need to change my focus. I know there are typos, misspellings, and any number of violated literature rules.
A good beta reader will tell you not only what they think is wrong with your book, but also how it could possible be fixed. As a side note, that falls right in line with rule number 3 in my book. They will tell you the characters they liked best, the ones they hated, and why. Mine will even tell me when they fell asleep. Thanks for that by the way.

3 Simple Rules Update
My soon to be release book, 3 Simple Rules, is pretty much through the beta reader stage and I have already started on the rewrites. The cover is in the process of being remade as well. If there are any additional comments out there among my beta readers (one last pin to stick in my side) I'll be wrapping up the rewrites in the next week and sending it off to the editor in the next week.
3 Simple Rules is only a little over a hundred pages long and designed to be a quick read. Hey, it's only three rules. These are rules that I have tried to live by for going on thirty years now. Some of you that know me have heard me say them over and over again (sorry about that). My list of rules used to be longer, but over time I realized that they all in some way or another boiled down to just these three.
I will admit that there is so much more I wanted to put into this book, but that would have made it much longer. As I was writing it, I couldn't get the image of my kids rolling their eyes as I came up with yet another reason for them to follow the 3 Simple Rules (Yes, I had them posted around the house as they were growing up.). So, I guess you have them to thank for the quick read.
So once again beta readers, thank you for being willing to read my work in advance and tear it apart to make it better. Thank goodness my ego is not a fragile thing.
3 Simple Rules should be released around mid-August some time. I hope you enjoy it.
