As a publisher and publishing consultant, I hear on a regular basis horror stories from authors that have self-published using pay-for-publishing services. The stories range from fraud to downright incompetence. I have worked with some authors that reported paying several thousands of dollars to have their book published, only to find out that the manuscript was just simply put into a bound format with no work done on improvement at all. Oh, and the words, "Free ISBN"? There's no such thing. If you pay someone to publish your book, unless you actually pay for the ISBN, they are listed as the publisher.
At this point I would like to point out that there are some legitimate vanity presses out there. Some are easier to work with than others, and many will offer Pay-Per-Item additional services. But, the fact still remains that they are the one listed as the publisher, not you. Then again, they may operate as a printer. I know, confusing right?
After years of working with authors who have had varied experiences both in self-publishing and traditional publishing, I have created a course called, EntrePublishing. EntrePublishing (Entrepreneurial Publishing) is a publishing start-up guide for those interested in learning all about the publishing industry.
Who Can Use EntrePublishing?
EntrePublishing is a two-day intensive workshop designed specifically to teach you how to envision, create, and operate your own publishing company. This information can be used by indie-authors to learn how to take control and publish their own book or by already established publishers wanting to keep up with current technology and trends in publishing. Want to start your own publishing company? EntrePublishing will teach and show you step-by-step how to start your own publishing company.
Not Just For Indie-Authors & Publishers
Do you own a business or belong to an organization? Many businesses outsource the publication of regular periodic print material. This is fine if you are dealing with runs of thousands of copies, but what about if you only want a hundred, or a few, or just one copy to use as a test model? These can get costly when outsourced. Learn how to do them in-house and save money.
Find Out More. . .
EntrePublishing will be held in February at the Spitzer Conference Center of Lorain County Community College in Elyria, OH. All of the needed materials, refreshments and lunch for both days will be provided. Because this course is designed to help you target your industry and how you can use what you learn specifically to your situation, there is limited seating available.
